Saskatoon Crime Stoppers is NOT the police.
Why Crime Stoppers Works
The two main reasons people do not report crime is that of APATHY and FEAR OF REPRISAL. Apathy - “if the crime did not happen to you, then you tend not to get involved”. The Crime Stoppers Program combats apathy by offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of persons responsible for criminal activity. Crime Stoppers combats fear of reprisal by guaranteeing anonymity. When a tipster contacts us, their information is taken and a code number is assigned. The tipster is then instructed to contact the Crime Stoppers office in three weeks for an update. If the information leads to an arrest, a cash award is paid to the tipster.
The Crime Stoppers Program is now in over 1,200 communities worldwide and has been described as the “biggest impact in policing since the identification and classification of fingerprints”. The program provides a mechanism by which the community can assist in solving crimes anonymously.
